Die Hackeschen Höfe - Berlin

Overview

The Hackeschen Höfe consists of eight linked courtyards, accessible through the main arched entrance on Rosenthaler Straße.

The area is considered to be one of the top entertainment locations within Berlin, and includes a variety of shops, bars, clubs, restaurants, cafes and art galleries. A lovely place to shop and stroll in the day, and dine in the evening.

Particular highlights include the Chamäleon Variety Theatre, which is built in an original wine tavern and ballroom, and the surrounding Grosse Hamburger Strasse, which includes the oldest Jewish cemetery in the city. Sadly the cemetery was destroyed by the Gestapo in 1943, and only one symbolic tombstone remains, that of Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn.

The nearest public transport stop is the S-Bahn station Hackescher Markt.
