Staatsballet Berlin - Berlin
Once, Berlin had three independent ballet companies, associated with the three opera houses. The history of these companies went back as far as the late 1700's, and Berlin quickly gained a reputation as being a world-class venue for ballet. Anna Pavlova danced in Berlin on more than one occasion. In 2004, the companies merged to establish one company under the direction of Vladimir Malakhov.
Today, they perform classical repertoire, such as Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky classics Romeo and Juliet and Swan Lake, and they complement these with neoclassical works using modern choreography. There's even a platform for company members to give choreography a go: an experimental show called "Shut Up and Dance!" Whatever your taste in music and dance, you'll find something to see that's beautiful, fascinating, and of course, completely moving.
